The end of the beginning: First year at the medical faculty

As first year for us at the University of Colombo, Faculty of Medicine is ending, everyone in the batch are acting in different ways. Some people are not coming to the faculty preparing for the exams. Some people are coming to the faculty taking photos of their last days as the first year students and the places where we studied, suffered, and enjoyed. But I would say this would be a nice time to reflect back how we have changed over this past 10 months of so called first year.

 When I first came to the faculty I despised learning medicine and practically hated it. Now I am cooperating with it. I won't say that I love studying medicine. But now I don't really hate it. And also enjoy some of parts of the lesson I study. I don't know the real reason for this but I think most of it is due to my friends. So to all my friends, who are not letting themselves enjoy these last days as the first year students. Please enjoy life, while it lasts. Don't make your life exams after exams.

    I also wants to be an ordinary student, studying, havin fun with mates. Bt I think I chose a wrong way. Now I cant so anythng. Just enjoying my last days of 1st year. Ok well see. Anyway thnx ramesh for remind me all these

    Thanks for this post buddy. The color u added to this "termination period" is simply emotional. "Please enjoy life, while it lasts.". Yah.. U are right.. We have to enjoy every second of these days. But I think I've wasted tons of them before.. I wish I could spend at least some kilos next week.

    @Aathi No matter how it ends, Let's be happy having some sweet, unforgettable, funny, crazy, mokkai memories in mind. Let's give a nice fairwell to the START.

    Though the moments on the last day of the first year was emotional, i lost them in some conflicts.
    But well knew that how to face problems, how to handle various personalities, how to overcome hatreds almost everything. This is not just academic this is developing our valuable personalities. I think i did at least a small part. But this is not a real end, we will have to face another 4 same situations. May be this would be a rehearsal for those. I'm trained to enjoy every valuable moments passing me.

I follow the same routine everyday, from the moment I get up until I close my eyes. To change even a small thing I have to think it over and over again several times before doing it. What am I afraid of? I guess it is uncertainty. Uncertainty of how a new food item you have never tasted before would taste like keeps you from ever ordering that food item. Birthdays and Me

If anyone asks me the least favourite day in a year, I would say it's my birthday without a second thought. Birthday which is an event to publicly announce someone's age and to give a party and to receive gifts in which corporates can sell birthday cards, gifts and party arrangements. What makes me angry is giving superficial gifts, which doesn't mean anything to the giver or the receiver. I don't know what I fear the most, that I am getting older by one year, or that I have spent the last 12 months without achieving anything I wanted to achieve in my life. I sometimes wonder how time has slipped through my cupped hands on my birthdays. And the other personal reason is something bad always happens to me on my birthdays.  So if anyone asks me for birthday party, I would say that I hate birthdays. Future and uncertainty

"Future is not set on stone" What scares me to the core is the future and its associated uncertainty. Nearly 5 years ago, I started my med school career, I had no idea what my plan for the future. Now, just 3 months for the final exams, I am still at that place with no plan for the future. What is more distressing is that, you see your friends and classmates who started with you and enrolled in other courses in university are graduating and are with a plan for the future while you are still stuck in this place with so much uncertainties. Adding more to the stress is that people asking you what type of doctor are you going to be. And I come up with different answers each time that question is asked. Adding onto this, the exam stress of the Final MBBS and the merit list and performance anxiety of the long and short cases are the perfect blend to make a person insane.
